Aaron Marsden is an independent artist who writes, produces, and sings original music. He specializes in both vocal and instrumental genres. As a DIY musician, he also single handedly records, mixes and masters all of his music himself from start to finish. From about the time he could wiggle his fingers, he’s been a musician. He taught himself to play the piano by ear at practically an infantile age. Alright, maybe it was closer to age six, but never mind that minor detail; it’s an amazing feat nonetheless. Whether he listened to Michael Jackson, Elton John, Chicago, Billy Joel or other popular artists of the same or surrounding eras, Aaron could hear the music in a way most of us can’t. He could organize the notes in his mind in some semblance of order, and he could play them back note for note. It’s no wonder he began composing his own music by the time he was in the third grade.
As Aaron grew more confident in his abilities, a natural sequence of events led him to take private piano lessons on multiple occasions. Although his teacher's had great success with various other students, their traditional methods didn’t seem to be a good fit for Aaron. Perhaps he had an aptitude for a different style of learning that inhibited his ability to learn from conventional processes, or perhaps he grew bored because such styles of practice led him through a slower progression. Whether it was the one or the other, all he knew is that it didn’t work for him. He had to learn by listening and experimenting. He’s still that way today.
By the time Aaron was about midway through grade school, he started performing a little publicly. A particular event poignant in his memory is a third-grade talent contest where he performed “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. He made an impression. As a matter of fact, his principal asked him to do a subsequent performance of another piece at a local junior high. There he played a song that he had composed himself with an addition by his brother James. Many others, like his principal, recognized the gift Aaron had and have called upon him to perform in some other different venues over the years.
Aaron is not the only one that has musical talents in his family. He is the youngest in a family with many other brothers and sisters who are also musically inclined. Most notably, he has two brothers who have produced studio quality music and have found a measure of success in the music industry. They have been supportive as Aaron has pursued his passion by helping and encouraging him in his younger years. On one occasion, his brother Jared gave him a set of drums out of the blue. Little did he know that Aaron would soon be almost as proficient at the drums as he was at the piano. Again, Aaron taught himself to play.
Aaron’s learning style has played a unique role in the development of his ability to compose. He has a knack for identifying and producing a popular mainstream sound with a unique and fresh interpretation. Listeners have compared his music to bands like Coldplay, The Fray, One Republic and others but in listening to his songs, you’ll find that he has his own distinctive sound that separates and distinguishes him as an exceptional artist.
Aaron is also an exceptional friend. His goal is to extend that friendship to his fans. He enjoys interacting with people online and wants to maintain close associations with people interested in his music as well as music in general. He's made a goal to transcend the stereotypical artist-fan relationship to something much more personal via social networking on sites like Facebook.com and Jango.com. He is and hopes to remain an independent artist free from the restrictiveness that comes from signing with a record label. For Aaron, his friends and fans are a top priority. Feel free to contact him at anytime. He responds to inquiries personally.
